What our students say about their internships

Lindsay Cleghorn, Advertising major, completed her internship at Bouvier Kelly Inc. in Greensboro, North Carolina:

"My internship at Bouvier Kelly has taught me more than I ever thought I could possibly learn in one month. The only thing I can honestly say I regret about interning here is that I didn't have more time."

Michael Bragg, Journalism major, completed a 15-week internship at the Student Press Law Center in Arlington, Virginia:

"I wrote stories for the website about instances of high school and college journalists across the United States facing censorship, being denied lawful access to public records and meetings, and making bold editorial decisions to report the news."

David Kim, Electronic Media/Broadcasting major, completed his summer internship at 106.5 FM The End in Charlotte, North Carolina:

"As a native Charlottean and lifelong listener of commercial radio, I, like many young radio fans, was enamored at the thought of interning with 106.5 FM. However, during my time at 106.5, I quickly learned that my knowledge of a functioning radio station was superficial at best. Working with the team at Clear Channel as an intern, I learned many things, but the most important lesson I gleaned was about the ever-evolving nature of media and the importance of continual learning."

Erin Meason, Public Relations major, interned at Eddie Borgo, a design studio in New York City:

"After a stressful guessing game in the dark, underground tunnels of the New York subway, I finally arrived at 204 Elizabeth Street, home to Eddie Borgo's showroom. After triple checking the address, I carefully climbed the stairs up to the second level of the quaint building in SoHo. A small sign next to a pair of blue double doors clarified that I was at the right location. I gently knocked, unsure of what would lie behind the large doors in front of me. A petite girl pulled the door open, and I stood in awe of the space that unfolded in front of me. White shelves adorned with beautiful jewelry graced the wall to my right, while a classic long white table was positioned carefully in front. A sheer white curtain separated this gorgeous showroom from an open studio, lined with pristine white desks, sleek white computers, and white filing cabinets. Besides the curtain, there were no dividing walls present. It was in this moment I realized it was worth it. The long days of sending resumes and preparing for interviews, frantically searching for an affordable apartment in the city, and struggling to navigate the complicated subway system seemed rather insignificant now. I had finally made it. Really made it. I knew at this moment that my internship with Eddie Borgo this summer was sure to change my life."

Taylor Masten, Communication Studies major, had this to say about her internship at Offsite Health:

"As a Marketing and Sales intern, I researched and completed a competitor analysis, produced social media content for our LinkedIn page, generated a 7-step marketing campaign, participated in sales calls with prospective clients, produced a sales PowerPoint that outlined Offsite Health’s services and offerings, and created a final presentation that explained the navigation tools of our online portal."
