Communication at Appalachian State University
The Department of Communication is dedicated to putting students first. Our faculty members place a priority on quality teaching, which is demonstrated by their engaging courses, revising the curriculum and course materials, and caring for students. Our staff do their best to ensure that students meet the university's requirements so they can graduate on time.
Our curriculum gives students hands on, real-time experiences that transform how they see the world and their chosen field. As a result, our students develop communication, media, and broadcasting skills that can take them to the top of their fields. Students graduate not only with the skills they need to succeed and thrive wherever their career takes them, but with the confidence they need to pursue their dreams.
In this section of the website you'll find information to guide you as you work toward a Communication degree, including:

Admission to the Department
The Department of Communication seeks to admit students who are dedicated to pursuing a degree in the varied fields of communication.
Students may declare a major in Advertising, Communication Studies, Journalism or Public Relations as soon as they meet the requirements for declaring a major.
Resource limitations place a restriction on the number of students who can be served effectively by the department's Electronic Media/Broadcasting major. Therefore, students must apply for admission to the EM/B major no later than Feb. 1 for the following fall semester, or no later than Sept. 15 for the following spring semester. Transfer students should email firstname.lastname@example.org for guidance on the possibility of summer declaration.
