Incoming Undergraduate Student Scholarship Portal

Apply for incoming student scholarships in your MyMountaineer Portal.
Transfer students: application open Jan. 15 - March 1
First-year students: application open Aug. 1 - Nov. 15

Communication Student Scholarships

To apply for continuing student scholarships with the College of Fine and Applied Arts, visit the Appalachian Scholarship Application Portal (ASAP). The application for 2024-25 scholarships opens on December 1, 2023.

The George G. Beasley Family Scholarship

  • Applicants must be full-time students next year and demonstrate financial need to qualify for this scholarship. This scholarship is for Electronic Media/Broadcasting majors.

The Carol J. Hughes Memorial Scholarship

  • Applicants must have a 3.0 or higher GPA and be full-time students next year to qualify for this scholarship. You must also be a rising senior and be involved in extracurricular activities.

The Carolina West Wireless Scholarship for Communication

  • Applicants must be Communication majors and full-time students.

The Charles E. Porterfield Scholarship

  • Applicants must have a 3.0 or higher GPA and be full-time students next year to qualify for this scholarship. You must also be a rising junior or senior and demonstrate financial need.

The David H. Matthews Scholarship

  • Applicants must be rising juniors or seniors with a 3.0 or higher GPA and must be full-time students next year to be eligible for this scholarship.

The Golden and Stella Choi Endowed Scholarship

  • Applicants must have a 3.0 or higher GPA and be full-time students next year to qualify for this scholarship.

The Joe S. Epley Scholarship

  • Applicants must have a 3.0 or higher GPA and be full-time students next year to qualify for this scholarship. You must also demonstrate financial need and be a rising junior or senior majoring in Public Relations.

The Will and Delana Vickers Endowed Scholarship (Two Awards)

  • First Award: Applicants must be a junior or senior standing, full-time student, and Communication major. Must also be involved in extracurricular activities directly or indirectly related to communication arts, including but not limited to WASU, The Appalachian, AppTV, and off-campus communications work.
  • Second Award: Applicants must be full-time students and non-paid volunteers, interns, or paid staff members of WASU.

The Students In Journalism Scholarship

  • Applicants must be full-time students majoring in Public Relations or Digital Journalism in the Department of Communication. Must also be a member of a student media organization, such as The Appalachian, WASU, or AppTV.
