Christian graduated from Appalachian State University in 2014, where he was the station manager and morning show host for the college radio station WASU-FM. After graduation, Christian worked full-time in Triad radio for the well-known stations Rock 92 and 107.5 KZL. His love for weather prompted him to return to school and obtain his meteorology credentials through Penn State University, finishing the program in December 2020.

In his nearly 10 years at People For the American Way, Rio has coordinated countless campaign efforts to lobby Congress and state legislatures in support voting rights, government ethics, and campaign finance reform.
