Students from Mountain View Elementary School's News Crew Tour AppTV and WASU

Recently, students from Mountain View Elementary School's News Crew, located in Jefferson, North Carolina, visited the campus of App State. Their first stop was AppTV, where they were given a tour by Jenna Dunning, Liam Dunman, Noah Cornelius, and Conor O'Doherty. The students were shown the AppTV studios, a video editing suite, and the awards case for AppTV.

Next, they toured the WASU 90.5 FM radio studio led by Chris Merritt and Lucas Warren. Here, they had the opportunity to see the radio studio, view the awards case, and even record an on-air station identification that was broadcasted during their visit. The hands-on experience at AppTV and WASU 90.5 FM radio studio was particularly exciting for the students as they saw how videos and radio shows are made.

The visit concluded with a talk by Colin Bross, Director of Marketing & Public Relations, and Allison Bennett Dyche, Adviser, from The Appalachian (App State's student-run newspaper). The students learned about the production process—how stories, photos, and multimedia are assigned and produced—and the different opportunities available in journalism. The students and teachers left with copies of the March edition of The Appalachian. Mountain View Elementary School's visit to App State was an educational and enriching experience for the News Crew students and teachers alike.
