The Department of Communication welcomes Dr. Lynn Gibbard back to campus! Dr. Gibbard returns to App State after spending the 2025-2026 academic year in Austria completing a Fulbright appointment and research semester. Dr. Gibbard was hosted by the University College of Teacher Education Vorarlberg and her project was titled "American Studies in Media and Military Culture: Building intercultural understanding".
Dr. Gibbard will present her Fulbright experience to the university community later this year. When asked about her time in Austria, Dr. Gibbard had this to share: “A professional highlight outside of the obvious joys of working with the students there, was being able to present at and to experience the Austrian Association for American Studies. As someone who has focused much of their career on Intercultural Communication, seeing my own culture through the eyes of others was powerful. I also had a public read as part of my presentation of one of my poems - that's something I have not done since I was very young. I was inspired by the support that the Austrian academics who were members of the Association had for me as an American academic.”
